One camper. One unforgettable journey.
The Main Street of America Route 66 Centennial Caravan took place from June 6-25, 2026, organized by the Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership. Certified as an official Route 66 Centennial event, it provided an opportunity to highlight preservation success stories in all eight states that make up the Mother Road.
As the Illinois representative of one of the 8 states, this truck camper proudly represented the state of Illinois and Granite City, traveling America's legendary Mother Road. From historic landmarks and classic diners to small-town communities, the journey celebrated the people, businesses, and stories that continue to make Route 66 one of the world's most iconic road trips.
That same spirit of exploration lives on, right here, through Explore Granite City where anyone can easily locate amazing local attractions, events, restaurants, parks, and locally-owned retail.

Just beyond the skyline of St. Louis lies a city built on hard work, a lively community, and the spirit of America's most legendary highway. Granite City! The city earned its name from the famous "Granite Ware" enameling process that helped shape its industrial identity in the late 1800s-early 1900s.
As Route 66 brought travelers across the country in earlier days, the city became a welcoming stop filled with family diners, local shops, parks, and unforgettable roadside attractions.
Today, that same spirit lives on. Historic landmarks stand beside colorful murals, independent businesses continue to serve generations of citizens, and community events keep downtown alive throughout the year.
